When it's winter in Clearwater, MN, it's important to be prepared. A winter storm can come with high winds, heavy snow, and ice. All of these things can cause damage to your business. Here are some tips for how to best prepare for upcoming storm damage.

Watch the Weather

The more advance warning you have, the more time you will have to prepare for a storm. There are multiple ways you can check your weather forecast:

  • Your local news station
  • The weather app on your phone
  • Online

Setting up alerts on your phone to go off when you are under a winter storm watch or warning can also give you some indication for when a storm pops up unexpectedly.

Secure Light Items

If you have items outside that can blow away in a storm, either bring them inside or secure them. Not only do you want to avoid losing these items, but you also want to prevent it from flying and hitting another item, causing damage.

Eliminate Pipe Risks

The cold weather that comes with winter storms can cause a pipe to break. There are a couple of ways to prevent this. For pipes that face an outside wall or may be exposed to cold temperatures, leave the water dripping. In addition, be sure that you keep the thermostat at the same temperature at night as you do during the day.

Prepare for Power Outage

Heavy snow from a storm can cause tree branches to fall onto power lines. Sometimes, the weight of the snow is enough to bring a power line down. Prepare for a potential outage by making sure all of your data is backed up.
Storm damage from a winter storm can be devastating, but there are some things you can do to help prevent it. Watch the weather to know when a storm is coming, secure items that may fly away, keep water dripping from faucets and be ready for a power outage. When you do experience storm damage, trust your storm restoration experts to help repair the damage.
